Deanna Dimarzio Photography – Fresh Faces Contest!

January 28, 2010 0

Local photographer Dianna Dimarzio, owner and founder of Deanna Dimarzio Photography, makes getting that perfect picture of you little ones so much easier by bringing the studio to YOU. Book a portrait session with her and she will bring her mobile studio to the location of your choice, whether it’s your home, a local park or the beach. Deanna also puts a fun spin on the ordinary portrait session by offering Home Portrait Parties. Invite friends and family to your own home, (or another location of your choice) for a portrait session.

And… Right now Deanna is running a FRESH FACES CONTEST and has chosen us to help announce it! (It’s our first contest here at South Shore Mamas, we’re very excited!) Visit for contest details and rules!

Lost LEGO Directions? No Problem!

January 18, 2010 0

My 5-year-old is just starting to get into LEGO’s. We only have a handful of sets so far, but already I’m obsessing about storing the little directions booklets after the toys have been assembled. What if his little brother takes it upon himself to deconstruct the tow truck or Power Miners contraption that took us so long to build? Did you know that LEGO has a directory of building plans available on their website?

Mommy Tip Monday: McDonald’s Toy Swap

January 11, 2010 0

In our house we always seem to end up with doubles of Happy Meal toys, or some that we just don’t want. Did you know that you can take your unwanted, unopened toys to McDonalds when they have a prize that the kids DO want, and trade up?

Create and Play Toy

January 10, 2010 0

My five-year-old received a lot of great toys from his family and friends this Christmas. One toy that stands out amongst the action figures and race cars is the Calafant Cardboard Fort he got. The fort is made of thick, durable white cardboard and comes flat-folded in the box. We assembled it together in 20 minutes (no glue or tape required). He was so proud to be able to help! The idea is that he can decorate the fort any way he likes, he can use crayons, markers, paint, glue, glitter, whatever.

Photographing Children

January 5, 2010 0

I love to take pictures. I constantly annoy the children by pointing a camera in their face at just about every occasion. I take it to the park, to the zoo, out for a morning in the snowy yard. I squat down and snap away as they ride bikes, play football, finger paint and color. I recently read a couple of great blog posts with some helpful advice for getting those perfect photos of your kids…

Bye Bye Binky?

January 3, 2010 6

Mommy dilemma: When (and how) to take away the beloved pacifier from your baby/toddler? My daughter just turned 18 months old and I’ve been thinking about options… The Binky Fairy? Cold Turkey? Build-A-Bear?

Advice for the New Year

January 1, 2010 0

Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Share a funny story with someone whose spirits are dragging. Vow not to make a promise you don’t think you can keep…

The Toys Have Taken Over…

January 1, 2010 2

So Christmas was great, the kids were more than happy with their toys from Santa and have been kept very busy all week assembling LEGOS, driving remote control cars and enacting battle scenes with their action figures.

Problem: What the heck am I supposed to do with all this stuff?! The toys we already owned barely fit into the small sunroom we refer to as the ‘toy’ room. Time to sort, organize, and (discretely) toss out some old toys!
