Warning: The Department of Public Health has declared the following cities and towns at high risk for EEE, (Eastern equine encphalitis), a lethal viral disease spread by mosquitoes: Acushnet, Berkley, Bridgewater, Carver, Duxbury, Fairhaven, Freetown, Halifax, Kingston, Lakeville, Mattapoisett, Middleborough, New Bedford, Plympton, Raynham,
Rochester and Taunton. Surrounding towns are believed to be at moderate risk.

Blueberry Picking at CN Smith Farm

Another must on our list of family activities this summer was blueberry picking. Our usual haunt, Ward’s Berry Farm, said berries were scarce right now, so we headed down to C.N. Smith Farm in East Bridgewater, where, as they said, berries were just bursting off of the bushes!

This Weekend: Houghton’s Pond Fish Festival

This Saturday, July 24th, check out the 18th annual Houghton’s Pond Fish Festival! This family-friendly event will be held at Houghton’s Pond at the Blue Hills Reservation from 10:00am to 2:30pm at picnic site #5. You can take lessons in casting, knot-tying and fish identification, then cast a line into Houghton’s Pond! The festival will include instructional clinics, fish crafts and games. If you have fishing equipment, bring it along, as a limited quantity of fishing equipment and (free) bait will be available.
