{February Vacation} Fun at the Zoo!

imageHead to the local zoos during February Vacation week and keep the kids busy with presidential zoo elections, animal encounters, puppet shows, and seek and find games with some PBS characters!


FRANKLIN PARK ZOO, BOSTON:

imageThis February Vacation week, the Franklin Park Zoo is hosting a PreZOOdential Election Week!  In honor of Presidents’ Day and the 2012 Presidential election, the zoo will be hosting its own Zoo animal election for “President” of the Zoo.  Throughout the week, families can learn about each of the candidates’ platforms, vote for their favorite candidate, celebrate with games and activities and discover what makes each animal unique.

Candidates include Gigi, a female western lowland gorilla, Christopher, a male lion, Tito, a male Andean condor, Jockamo, a male giant anteater, Isidoro, a male Brazilian ocelot, and Stella Luna, a female red panda.  Activities, games and voting will be held February 20th through 24th, from 11am-3pm each day.  On February 25th, the zoo will hold a Presidential Inauguration Party at the Tropical Forest from 11am-3pm!

Admission is $10.00 for children (2-12), $16.00 for adults and $13.00 for seniors (62+). Children under 2 are free.  For more information, visit www.franklinparkzoo.org.


THE STONE ZOO, STONEHAM:

imageAlso during February Vacation, the Stone Zoo invites you to Come Play the Animal Way! Watch cougars, black bears and others have fun in the cold, and learn about unique animal adaptations to the winter temperatures. Warm up in the Animal Discovery Center (ADC) during daily animal encounters at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., January through February.

Activity Schedule for February 20-24:

11:00am: Coyote zookeeper encounter.  This is an opportunity to learn more about these fascinating animals and ask a zookeeper questions. Meet at the exhibit.

11:30am: Animal Encounter in the Animal Discovery Center.  Visit the Animal Discovery Center and meet one of its residents up close.

1:30pm: Animal Encounter in the Animal Discovery Center.

2:00 p.m.: North American river otter zookeeper encounter.  This is an opportunity to meet one of the zookeepers who cares for Sushi the river otter. Learn more about North American river otters and ask questions. Meet at the exhibit.

BUTTONWOOD PARK ZOO, NEW BEDFORD:

imageFebruary 20-24 is Wild Winter Week at the Buttonwood Park Zoo.  Each day at 10:30am and 12:30pm, the zoo features a new special themed activities to keep your little critters busy:

February 20: Toe Jam Monday (Toe Jam Puppet Band)
February 21: Teddy Bear Tuesday
February 22: Western Wednesday
February 23: Animal Antics Thursday
February 24: Beach Party Friday


ROGER WILLIAMS PARK ZOO, PROVIDENCE RI:

Head to the zoo for Seek and Find with Sesame Street Live!  Search through Roger Williams Park Zoo Friday February 3rd through Friday March 2nd and find the 4 different Sesame Street Live character pictures. Pick up your Sesame Street Live Scavenger Hunt card at the first character picture you find, write down each character’s location, then enter to win prizes!  (Locations of the character pictures will change every Friday).
