February Vacation Destination: The Zoo!

Gorilla with Browse - credit Christina Demetrio That’s right, local zoos are open all year long!  It may be chilly, but the many animals are still out and about for viewing, plus some locations offer discounted admission rates during the winter months.  During February vacation, kids can also visit the zoo for special events and activities, so bundle up and go check out the wildlife! 

Franklin Park Zoo, Boston MA

Franklin Park Zoo’s Tropical Forest, featuring lush greenery and waterfalls, is kept at a balmy 72 degrees year-round and is home to western lowland gorillas, ring-tailed lemurs, ocelots, Baird’s tapirs, a giant anteater and much more! This is a great way to visit the Tropics without leaving Boston!  Throughout February school vacation week, learn more about the incredible animals that call the Tropical Forest home. Beat the humdrum winter routine and come out to Stone Zoo during February school vacation week. Watch cougars, black bears and others have fun in the cold, and learn about neat animal adaptations to the winter temperatures. Just like you, animals can get bored when they’re cooped up all winter, so we have come up with novel enrichment activities to keep them stimulated and happy! Come and see all the creative things we do for our animals, and learn how we keep them active and engaged throughout the winter using enrichment techniques. Winter Adventures (ages 6-10):  Brrr…New England winters can be cold! Instead of keeping the kids inside during February school vacation, send them to an interactive four-day camp. Winter Adventures at Roger Williams Park Zoo will engage your child in a full day of crafts, activities, animal interviews, animal interviews, and even bundled-up tours of the Zoo.  RWPZ offers half price admission in January and February!  {more info}
