Welcome to the South Shore Mamas 2014 Summer Camp Guide!  We’ve included day camps from all over the South Shore for kids from preschool all the way up to high school age.

Camps are organized alphabetically, and we’ve listed age groups as well as locations for each to make it easier to scan through and find what you’re looking for.  Click on the title link to be brought to the individual camp websites for more information.

BEHN Basketball Camp

Our experienced coaches create an intense yet comfortable atmosphere that encourages learning and development. The goal is for each player to leave camp with improved skills, increased confidence, and acquired knowledge on how to practice and succeed. And of course we have fun too!

Blue Hills Summer Camp

Ages:  K-12

Blue Hills Summer Camp offers campers (grades K-12) a unique location to discover nature through hands on exploration, creative play and active learning.  Each session features an age-appropriate theme intended to deepen each child’s knowledge and awareness throughout the summer and beyond camp.  Our high staff to camper ratio and experienced, caring staff create a friendly and safe atmosphere on “The Hill.”

The Bridge Center Summer Camp

Camp Edith Read – Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts

Ages:  Grades 1-12

Camp Edith Read is a 44-acre site along Wading River, offering girls the chance to explore nature in a safe, fun environment. The site includes a lodge, playing field, adventure trail, shelters for rainy day activities and an in-ground swimming pool. Campers will have fun enjoying arts and crafts, singing, games, archery (4th grade and up), outdoor cooking and so much more!

Camp Wind In The Pines – Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts

Wind-in-the-Pines Day Camp, located on Gallows Pond, is a premier adventure camp for girls. The camp offers a wide variety of activities from drama to arts & crafts, sports and games, swimming, boating and high and low adventure courses.

Camp Wing

At Camp Wing,  kids and staff come together each summer to form an extended second family of friends and mentors. We weave development of life skills, peer relation abilities, and conflict resolution strategies into all of the fun things that happen at camp every day, from boating to the the climbing wall to arts and crafts!  Camp Wing is an overnight camp.

Camp Ponkiwanee – Camp Fire USA
Location:  Hanson
Ages:  5-13

An outdoor based day camp experience on Maquan Pond in Hanson, MA.

The mission of Camp Ponkiwanee is to provide a quality summer program promoting understanding, integrity, community, awareness, self expression, and leadership for a diverse population of youth. The goal of Camp Ponkiwanee is to create a safe, welcoming community in which our campers learn and grow through enriching and challenging activities each day.

Capron Park Zoo – Summer Zoocademy For Kids

Capron Park Zoo offers a variety of summer programs for kids of nearly every age. All programs include age appropriate activities that focus on animals, habitats, the environment or conservation that are educational and engaging, but most of all FUN!

Children’s Museum in Easton – Summer Mini Camps

Each day has an art or science theme and is packed with activities, experiments, crafts and games geared specifically to your child’s developmental skills.  Art, literacy, take-home crafts, science activities,  and much more!  Each day will include outdoor time and time to enjoy the Museum’s interactive exhibits!

Drumlin Farm Summer Day Camp

At Drumlin Farm Summer Day Camp, we develop an appreciation of nature. Campers gain confidence and comfort being in the natural world and understand the interconnectedness among people, land, and wildlife.  Emphasis on community, interdependence, and conservation.

Ecotarium Summer Discovery Camp
Location:  Worcester
Ages:  5-14

Harbor Discoveries Camp – New England Aquarium

Ages:  Grades 4-10

Harbor Discoveries is an interactive marine and environmental science program that incorporates traditional camp activities. Programs include behind–the-scenes activities in Aquarium galleries, excursions to Boston Harbor Islands, daily field trips to North Shore and South Shore habitats and an overnight experience. Nature serves as our outdoor classroom as we travel to explore aquatic environments.

Holly Hill Summer Camp
holly hill Location:  Cohasset
Ages:  Ages 3-18

Campers explore the 140 acres of the farm to learn about soil, seeds, plants, and bugs.  There is also cooking, creating art on the farm, drama, and exploration of the beautiful natural habitats of the woods, fields and waterways of the farm.  There is also a community service program for teens to grow food for the food pantry and our Young Farmers Program where youth grow and sell produce at the Cohasset Farmer’s Market. We guarantee your children will come home dirty and happy!

In Sync Center For The Arts
Location:  Quincy
Ages: 3 years old – 8th grade

Options include half day programs and evening classes.  Choose from Yoga Adventures, Jedi Training, Tutus and Tiaras, Pirates and Princesses, Musical Theater, Smart Art, Beach Party, Building Ballerinas, Boys Hip Hop, Lego Engineering and more.  Visit website for more information.

JunglePlex Summer Academies

Academies are offered four days each week (Monday – Thursday), full day or half day.  Choose from Youth Soccer Academy, Stingray Soccer Academy, and Multi-Sport Academy.

MABA’s Wild at Art Summer Camp

Ages:  4-16

The Museum of American Bird Art’s 121-acre wildlife sanctuary, family-friendly art museum, and ceramics studio offer a unique set of resources for campers.  Each day children explore the fields, forest, and wetlands with hands-on investigations and games. Imagination and creativity are encouraged with art projects in print-making, painting, nature journaling, and sculpting in clay. Each week features a guest artist. Non-competitive games and free-choice activities are included every day.

Maplewood Country Day Camp
maplewood Location:  South Easton
Ages:  Preschool  – 7th Grade

We offer an active, cooperative program to promote skill development and build confidence.  Each day your child will participate in a wide variety of activities made up of a perfect combination of active and relaxed activities – swimming, sports, the arts, gymnastics, karate, boating. Story-time, quiet group games and playground time provide children the opportunity to slow down.

Mass Maritime Academy – Summer Sailing School

Ages:  8-18

MMA’s Summer Sailing School provides a mix of activities both off and on the water for kids age 8 through 18.   For sailors of every level, from those who have never been on a sailboat to those who have sailed competitively, the possibilities for learning are endless. Our talented staff teaches the mechanics of sailing (from the basics to racing strategies), water safety, nautical terminology, and navigation.

Moose Hill Day Camp

Ages:  3-16

Let Moose Hill Camp become your child’s neighborhood play space. Every day is an adventure where kids can dabble in our shallow ponds, chase dragonflies, scramble over rocks, catch frogs, climb a hill, look out upon a vista, or watch the clouds floating by.  Our goal is to connect children to nature and let them have fun through a blend of outdoor explorations, non-competitive games, focused activities, hikes, and crafts.

Natural History Summer Day Camp at Stony Brook

Ages:  3-16

Campers will learn about forest, field, and wetland habitats. The curriculum is enhanced by trail explorations, hands-on activities, crafts, and non-competitive games. Our goal is to provide an entertaining and educational experience in a safe, supportive setting. We strive to help your child better understand, enjoy and appreciate nature.

North River Nature Camp

Ages:  K-9th Grade

With 225 acres of forest, field, and marsh, North River Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful natural classroom. The majority of each day is spent along the trail, where campers explore and participate in hands-on, inquiry-based activities. Through hikes, games, crafts, and more, we get muddy, grass-stained, and breathe lots of fresh air! Our Discovery Room and Nature Play area provide additional ways for your child to connect with the natural world.

On Stage Theatre

Triple Threat Intensive Camp:  Learn and train in vocal technique, acting, scene work, audition prep, improv., and choreography.
Caberet Camp:  Learn vocal techniques and dynamics, the correct way to use a microphone, and create a Cabaret.

Plymouth Fitness Summer Camp

Swim lessons, soccer instruction, racquetball instruction, daily field games, activities, crafts and more.   Open to the public.

Puddlestompers Nature Exploration
puddlestompers Location:  Chestnut Hill, Dedham, Newton, Wellesley
Ages:  3-8

Children learn through hands-on investigation, active movement and play, crafts, stories, and songs. Most of the program is spent outdoors in nature, though there are indoor facilities at all of our sites! A snack is provided each day, as well as a take-home craft and handout with additional activities to extend learning and exploration into your home.

South Shore Ballet Theatre – Summer Dance Program
ss ballet Location:  Hanover
Age:  7+

Students looking for a more serious program to prepare for an “away summer program” or for college dance preparation (Levels 2i – 7i, ages 7+) enroll in our Summer Ballet Intensive Program. During these 4 weeks, students strengthen their technique with ballet and pointe/variations classes daily (following ABT’s National Training Curriculum), as well as enrichment classes such as character, modern, jazz, musical theatre and yoga.

South Shore Baseball Club
Location: Braintree, Hingham
Ages:  5-15

Individual attention will be emphasized in all aspects of the game.  Pitching, catching, defense, base running and hitting will all be featured in special sessions and lectures.  The staff will be sure to devote special attention to any individual needs or areas of improvement that a camper might have.

South Shore Conservatory

South Shore Conservatory’s summer programs inspire music, dance and drama students to perfect their skills and meet students from other towns who share the same passion for the arts. There’s something for everyone at the Conservatory over the summer months. Find out what’s here for you!

South Shore Dance Academy
Location:  Weymouth
Ages:  3-13

dance camp Princess Dance Camp (ages 3-6) includes creative movement, dance inspired games and activities, arts and crafts, and some princess stories. In Dancing Across the World (ages 7-10) dancers will learn a variety of dances from different countries, including folk dancing, Bollywood, country line dancing, baroque, the polka, and the Mexican hat dance, among others.  During Ballet Camp (ages 10-13), dancers will take ballet class, learn variations from a number of ballets, and will work on stretching and conditioning.  At Dance Me a Story (ages 3-6), join us as we learn how to create a story and present it with music and dance!

South Shore  Natural Science Center – Nature Adventures Day Camp

Explore the habits and habitats of animals living in our woods, ponds, meadows, and along the shore.   Campers will have fun, use their imaginations, and just be kids in a low stress, outdoor environment.   They will learn about natural science through stories, hikes, games, crafts, and a host of other fun-filled activities.

South Shore Pottery Shop Summer Programs

Each week those signed up in the summer program will complete multiple projects each day. Projects may include clay building, pottery painting, canvas painting, textile, glass, mosaics and more. Eight weeks with eight different themes.

Summer Adventures at Weir Farm & World’s End

The goal of our programs is fun, first and foremost. But also, we aim to help your kids foster new friendships and set the foundation for a lasting love of the outdoors. We’re so lucky to be able to offer programs at both Weir River Farm and World’s End – two stunning places that help make the South Shore such a beautiful place to call home.

Tabor Summer Program

Ages:  6-17

Located on the beautiful seaside campus of Tabor Academy, Summer Program gives young people ages 6-17 the opportunity to develop their full potential as individuals, athletes, and students. Under the guidance of highly qualified counselors, coaches, and teachers, the program encourages young people to take pride in their personal achievements in the classroom, on the playing fields, or on the waterfront. The Tabor Academy Summer Program provides the option of schoolwork without losing any of the joys of summer.

YMCA Day Camps

Ages:  3.5-15

South Shore YMCA Summer Day Camps provide a safe and fun environment for young people to try new things, be active in the outdoors, build leadership skills.  With day camps located in Hingham, Quincy, Canton and Norwell, and a variety of traditional, specialty enrichment and sports camp offerings, we have something for everyone.

Youth Leadership Academy
sheriffs campLocation:  Braintree
Ages:  10-14

Sheriff Michael Bellotti’s Youth Leadership Academy is open to 10-14 yr olds in Norfolk County. It’s designed to enhance teamwork, confidence and communication.  The Academy centers around an extensive low and high ropes course under the supervision of specially trained instructors.

Zoo Camp
zoocamp Location: Boston, Stoneham
Ages: 6-13

Arts and crafts, nature games, environmental activities, and behind the scenes with some of the zoo’s animals help teach ZooCampers about our fascinating planet. Through these new experiences, campers develop a strong sense of self, new skills, community pride, environmental awareness and appreciation, and new friendships.
