2016 Halloween Events on the South Shore


There are so many Halloween events happening all over the South Shore this month, we don’t know how you’ll choose!  From jack-o-lantern displays to haunted hayrides, trunk-or-treats to story times, there is something here for everyone in your family.  Check back often as we’ll be adding new events as we get them!

October 6 – November 6, 2016
Join your family and friends for this amazing fall tradition: A nighttime display of 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns all along our beautiful Wetlands Trail, with well over 100 of the pumpkins carved into veritable works of art. NEW THIS YEAR: Weekend timed-entry tickets only sold online!  The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is open rain or shine, however, in cases of severe weather or weather-related technical difficulties we might close the event or end admission early. Grab your favorite costume and join us at Boo at the Zoo for an evening of Halloween fun! There’s enough thrills and chills for all ages at Boo at the Zoo! Climb aboard a spoooooky train ride, stroll down the trick or treat trail and take a spin through the jungle on our wild carousel. Come explore and discover in our hands-on Bone Zone, let loose at our Monster Mash Dance Yard and creep through the Barnyard Maze.  The North Woods Gift Store will have all your favorite Halloween items and enjoy tasty seasonal treats at the Bear’s Den Café!  Boo at the Zoo admission is $11/adult and $7/child for Zoo Members and $16/adult and $12/child for non-members. Children of all ages will love the Magical Halloween Castle and Celebration at Fort Independence on Castle Island!  Look for storytelling, magicians, refreshments, and more at the star-shaped fort … supposedly the inspiration for ‘The Cask of Amontillado,’ Edgar Allan Poe’s famous chill-filled short story.  The Castle Island events take place between 12 noon and 4pm on both days, weather permitting. At Hale Reservation in Westwood, Hosted by St. John’s Nursery School

Families can enjoy a fun-filled day of activities that includes hayrides, moonwalks, petting zoos, live bands, face painting, balloons and much more! With a bake sale, pizza and grilled items, Pumpkinfest is an all-day celebration in bucolic Cat Rock Park at the Carby Street entrance of Hale Reservation. A fantastic silent auction including loads of autographed Patriots items, hotel stays, gift cards to local restaurants and shops, and summer camps will be held at the event for some incredible deals and experiences. Every year we line the trails outside New England Wildlife Center with hundreds of pumpkins carved by professionals and our local community. There will be cotton candy, cookies, cider, costumes, crafts, animal presentations, music and much much more. This event is free and open to the public. Children and accompanying adults can visit Center Court near Macy’s for your FREE trick or treat bag and goodies (while supplies last).  Each participating child is asked to bring a canned food item for donation to The Salvation Army of Brockton to help porovide assistance to families in need this Thanksgiving. Recommended canned goods include baby food, vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, salad dressing, baking mixes and stuffing. Westgate will host the Canned Food Drive through November 16, 2016.  Mall Trick or Treat welcomes families and children 12 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
