I have very fond childhood memories of touring the ships at Battleship Cove in Fall River. (I even enjoyed the submarine tour despite being ridiculously claustrophobic). The museum has so much to offer, and is well worth the drive. This spring they have a calendar full of activities that the whole family can enjoy. Want to spend the night on a WWII battleship? April 15 - Tea Party with Belle
Join Belle, for morning tea at Battleship Cove’s Maritime Museum on Saturday, April 15, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. This is a wonderful way for parents, grandparents and children to celebrate spring. Tickets are $30 per person, $25 for members. Price includes a buffet of delicious sweet and savory treats and tea from Edible Creations by Gerry. April 15 - Anniversary of the Sinking of the Titanic
On Saturday, April 15, at 1:00pm, join the Maritime Museum at Battleship Cove for a showing of the 1953 film Titanic, starring Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck, and enjoy the museum’s 28ft. model of the Titanic used in the film. Each guest will receive a free Titanic model with paid admission.
April 17 - Liberty Week
"Liberty" is military term for vacation. Visit the museum for a fun-filled week of educational activities showcasing a sailor's life aboard a Navy ship. All activities are included with general admission. 9:00am-5:00pm
April 21 - Nautical Nights Family Overnight Camping Adventure
Experience a sailor's life and spend the night aboard a WWII Battleship! Sleep in restored Navy bunks and eat meals "chow-line" style in an immersive and fun environment. $60 per person includes overnight accommodations, evening snack, full breakfast, all day admission and a host of educational activities showcasing the life of a sailor. April 22 - Amateur Radio Day
Radio communications were absolutely crucial for sailors on Navy ships. Join members of the Massasoit Amateur Radio Association as they make contact with radio operators near and far. Visitors are encouraged to observe them, ask questions, and even try their hand at broadcasting! Activity included with general admission. 9:00am-5:00pm.
May 6 - Battleship Volunteer Field Day
Here is your chance to volunteer for a day and help preserve a World War battleship! Lunch and supplies provided. Registration required. Contact Emily Bryant at 508-678-1100 ext. 110 for more details, or to register.
May 12 - American Girl Doll Overnight
A special edition of the Nautical Nights overnight program! Girls and their dolls will spend a night on the battleship and learn about life on the World War II homefront through Molly McIntire, An American Girl. her books inspire the evening's activities. Guest will enjoy overnight accommodations, evening snack, full breakfast and a host of educational activities showcasing life on the homefront during the war. May 18 - Home School Day
Weather! Weather! Weather! Enjoy a day at both Battleship Cove and the Maritime museum to learn how weather has affected maritime history. Though activities related to science, technology, art, and history, students will see how important the understanding of weather is, as it relates to sea travel and ships. 10:00am-4:00pm. $10 per person.
May 19 - Fall River Line Day
Visit the Maritime Museum to see the astounding collection of Fall River Line Objects, architecture and art of the classic cruise line. The documentary film, "Steamboats: The Fall River Line" will be shown at 1:00pm. Included with general admission.
May 20 - Battleship Firepower Tour
Join an expert on battleship gun technology in this small and intimate tour of Big Mamie’s 16” guns. This tour walks visitors through the process of loading and firing, as well as provide historical context. Tour is 9:00am-3:00pm and includes lunch and a souvenir Snack Ration box. Space is limited to 10 guests. $75 for non-members, $55 for members. Ages 13+. Space fills up fast. Please call 508-678-1100 ext. 101/102 for reservations.
May 27 - Nautical Nights Family Overnight
Spend the night on a WWII battleship! Guest will enjoy overnight accommodations, all-day admission , two meals and nautical themed activities. $65 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 508-678-1100 ext. 101/102. Participants must be at least 6 years of age.
Free admission for all US veterans and active duty all weekend. 9:00am-5:00pm
Honor and commemorate the men and women of the armed services. Experience a traditional military observance, with the raising of the American Flag from half-staff and a 21-gun salute. The ceremony is open to the public and is a rain or shine event.
