2017 Family Friendly Halloween Events

The Halloween events are starting to roll in and we’re gathering them all up for you!  Here’s a sneak peak at what’s going on next month.  Stay tuned for more!

 

Boo at the Zoo
Stone Zoo, Stoneham
October 21 & 22, 11am-3pm

Children throughout New England are invited to trick-or-treat among the animals at Stone Zoo. Thrills, chills and animals lurk around every corner on the Trick-or-Treat Trail, while other haunted happenings include creepy crafts, ghoulish games, costume contests and a haunted maze!

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular
Roger Williams Park Zoo
October 5th-November 5th
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is back delighting audiences of all ages.  This year we will travel through time and visit with dinosaurs, explore the ice age, and peek into the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Rome.  As guests wander the Wetlands trail they will delight in the history of the Middle Ages, discover the New World, and be fascinated by major inventions like cars, planes, space travel, and the computer.  Infused throughout will be the art and music associated with each era.  Imagine the history of us all on over 5000 intricately carved pumpkins.

Zoo Boo Days
Southwick’s Zoo
October 14-31
Join us at the zoo for our annual family-friendly Halloween event! This year’s Zoo Boo Days will take place October 14-31 during our normal hours of 10:00am-5:00pm. The zoo will be decorated for Halloween, and kids will be able to trick or treat! Many animals will also be given pumpkins as fall themed enrichment.  During Zoo Boo Days, children ages 3-12 in costume receive free general admission!*

Sea Scare
Mystic Aquarium, Mystic CT
October 14/15, 20/21, and 28/29, 11am-3pmEvery weekend in October starting the 14th, Sea Scare – a family-friendly Halloween adventure at Mystic Aquarium – casts magic, mystery and marvels throughout the Aquarium’s campus. Water wizards welcome all who dare to stop the wicked sea witch. Travel the outdoor exhibits to hear Tails of the Deep where animals and wizards work to defeat the witch and her spells. Step inside a fortune teller’s lair to learn your fate from the revered crystal ball – will your wizardly powers be enough to tame the sea witch or will she continue to rule the Aquarium? Discover the underwater world of her mystical castle where cob webs and skeletons and shells drip from above. Be sure to step in to Wizard University where you can craft your own wizard hat and wand before learning how to cast your own magical spells at the water wizard’s spell station. All of this hocus pocus and more takes place during Sea Scare at Mystic Aquarium!

Night of a Thousand Faces
New England Wildlife Center, Weymouth
October 27 & 28, 6:30pm-8pm
Night of a Thousand Faces has become an annual fall tradition, with hundreds of people of all ages coming to enjoy the pre-Halloween special event. Hundreds of carved pumpkins will light the way along your evening walk on the Center’s outdoor Andrea McKenna Harris nature trail.

Halloween Family Festival
Heritage Museum & Gardens
October 28, 5pm-8pm
All visitors will be treated to special Halloween-themed activities, including a dance party hosted by DJ Ooch, tractor-pulled hayrides around the grounds, and create a Halloween themed craft. Halloween-themed drinks and snacks will be available at the Magnolia Café, as well as free rides on the vintage carousel.  Visitors can also enjoy performances of Thriller by Sandwich Soul, Sandwich High School’s award-winning show choir.

Trick-or-Treating Spooktacular
Patriot Place

October 24th
Join us for our annual Trick-or-Treating SPOOKtacular at Patriot Place, featuring TWO sessions.  Trick-or-Treating items will include delicious treats (nut free & gluten free options will be available) as well as non-food treats.
– First Session:  12:30pm – 1:30pm (following a Halloween themed Storytime at Showcase Cinema de Lux at 11:00 AM)
– Second Session:  5:30pm – 7:00pm

Spooky Night at Bass Pro Shops
Bass Pro Shops, Foxboro

October 27th, 4:00-6:30m
Join Patriot Place for some SPOOKY fun behind Bass Pro Shops as we countdown the days until Halloween on Friday, October 27!   Activities from 4-6pm include a balloon artist, face painting, and Halloween mini golf.  At 6:00 enjoy a special screening of Toy Story of Terror!    From 6-8 there will be a free Halloween event (more details to come).  Make sure to wear your best costume, and bring lawn chairs/blankets! Event will take place on the back lawn behind Bass Pro Shops.

Splitsville Luxury Lanes – Howl at the Moon
Foxboro
October 27th, 6:00pm

Come have a ghoulish time at Howl at the Moon inside Splitsville Luxury Lanes™ this Halloween on Friday, October 27!  Sip on some Angry Orchards or try their Agent Orange Buckets. Plus there will be a costume contest with $250 in cash and prizes.

Patriot Place offers a FREE weekly event for kids and their parents. Kids Club Storytime is held every Tuesday at Showcase Cinema de Lux at 11:00 AM. This week, enjoy a special reading of “ Halloween Howl ” followed by a special appearance by Clifford!

Join us for a special Halloween Story time! First, in Mary McScary, bestselling authors R.L. Stine and Marc Brown join forces again in a funny story featuring a fearless anti-heroine that will have kids and their parents cheering. Then, in Creepy Pair of Underwear!, Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown team up for a hilarious and creepy story of a brave rabbit and a very weird pair of underwear.

Guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes and head on over for a full day of kid friendly, parent approved trick or treating at every ride!

Canton Halloween Fest
Armondo Center, 92 Pleasant Street
October 28, 5:30pm-7:30pm
The Great Pumpkin Feud:  Get a pumpkin, carve it out, and bring it to 92 Pleasant Street  between 3:30-5PM on Saturday, October 28!  We will provide your light! The official viewing is from 5:30-7:30PM.  Light refreshments will be provided.
Halloween Parade & Party:  Everyone’s invited!  Get that costume ready to march!  Live creepy creatures  and a magician at Canton High School.

Halloween in the Harbor
Scituate Harbor
October 31, 4pm-5:30pm
Front Street is partially closed to traffic while the street fills with treat or treaters visit businesses throughout the harbor. This annual event brings costumed kids, dogs, adults and whole families. Dress your best for the costume contest.

Holbrook Patrolman’s Association – Haunted House
800 South Franklin Street, Holbrook
October 26-28, 6pm-10pm
The Halloween festivities will occur on Thursday, October 26th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday October 27th & 28th from 6 p.m.to 10 p.m. at 800 South Franklin Street in the former Stop and Shop Plaza. The tickets for the event will be sold at the door on the nights listed, admission for adults is $8.00 and admission for children (12 and under) is $5.00.  ‘Family Night’ will be held on the event’s opening night Thursday, October 26th, at this time our staff will take a less frightening approach during the walk-through to accommodate children.

A great family-friendly event that will have special fall activities for visitors of all ages! Most activities are appropriate for toddlers to age 10, accompanied by a parent.  Please note, this is not a scary/”haunted” hayride. All activities are family-friendly.

Great Pumpkin Fest
Ecotarium, Worcester
October 19-22, 6pm-9pm
Join us for an all-ages Halloween spectacular with more than 3,000 professionally carved pumpkins lit up in stunning displays, take a train ride on the Explorer Express Train presented by the Worcester Railers HC (additional ticket required, purchase at event), plus, enjoy traditional trick-or-treating, entertainment, and more. These striking pumpkin displays of dinosaurs, safari animals, and beautifully carved jack-o’-lanterns will captivate you as you stroll the EcoTarium’s gorgeous grounds.  Friendly Halloween costumes are encouraged! Bring a flashlight to light your way at night and be sure to dress for the weather. This event takes place rain or shine.

St. John’s (Not-So-Spooky) Haunted House
Hingham
October 20, 21, 27 & 28, from 5pm-7pm
The St. John’s (Not-So-Spooky) Haunted House is a perfect outing for preschool and elementary age kids and includes refreshments and activities in our lower church hall afterwards.  Purchase tickets online, or buy them at the door.

Magical Halloween Castle – Castle Island
October 28 & 29, 12pm-4pm
Kid-friendly, not-so-scary haunted house. with story time, magicians and more.  Don’t forget your costume!

Fall Pumpkin Float
Frog Pond, Boston Common
October 20, 5-8pm
Attendees are asked to bring 8-inch or smaller carved pumpkins that will be lit and then floated on the Frog Pond for a picturesque early evening display. In addition, attendees are invited to judge creatively carved and decorated jack-o’-lanterns from various local organizations.  Children will be able to decorate luminary bags which will be displayed and illuminated along the edge of the Frog Pond.This FREE family-friendly event will also include a magician, music, mazes, and child-focused activities.  Halloween costumes are encouraged!

Pumpkin Pageant
Boston Children’s Museum
October 19, 12pm-3pm
It’s that time of year again, represent your workplace in the Fort Point area & carve your best jack-o-lantern! Voting is from 12-3pm and the winners are picked by a jury of your Fort Point peers. Stick around because we’ll have plenty of games & activities including pumpkin painting, pumpkin bowling, press-you-own apple cider, and more!

Save the date for our last special event of the season, complete with Halloween-themed activities for all ages, live music, and more!  This event is free to enter and open to all ages. Food and beverage available for purchase.
